What is an Airbag ECU?

The Airbag ECU, also known as the SRS control module or airbag control module, is the control unit responsible for monitoring the vehicle’s supplemental restraint system.

It receives information from crash sensors, seat belt pretensioners, airbags and related safety components. In the event of a collision, the system decides whether restraint components need to deploy.

Because the Airbag ECU is linked to a safety-critical system, warning lights, stored crash data, internal faults or communication problems should be assessed professionally.

Why an Airbag ECU fault should not be ignored

A faulty Airbag ECU may prevent the SRS system from operating correctly. Depending on the fault, airbags or seat belt pretensioners may not deploy when required, or the vehicle may continue to show an airbag / SRS warning light.

B0100 / B0100-49 – Internal ECU failure

Commonly reported on some Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Relay Applications.

U0151 / U015100 – Lost communication with restraints control module

The vehicle cannot communicate with the airbag / restraints control module.

U1726 – No communication with Airbag ECU

Reported on some Fiat / Alfa / Ford platform applications when communication with the airbag module is lost.
